Peace efforts
This refers to the news report, ‘Kabul warns Taliban not to delay peace talks’ (January 19). The quadrilateral committee that finalised its recommendations in Islamabad last week needs to speed up its efforts at bringing the Afghan Taliban and the Ashraf Ghani government to the negotiation table.
However, there is a need for Pakistan and Afghanistan to avoid blaming and criticising each other for every cross-border attack. Second, we should not be seen as carrying the baggage of good and bad Taliban. Instead we should try our best to influence the Afghan Taliban with regard to the dialogue process. Third, both the countries should know that only collective efforts will make the dialogue process successful.
