NAB seeks women’s support for new anti-corruption drive
Karachi
The National Accountability Bureau has initiated a new campaign titled “Accountability begins from home”, aiming to involve women and children to play a more active role to prevent their family members from getting involved in corruption.
The new awareness drive aims to involve women since they are central figures in families and play a pivotal role in preventing their husbands or parents from corrupt practices.
The campaign is the brainchild of NAB DG (Awareness and Prevention division) Aliya Rashid who under the campaign’s first phase held interactions with the wives and children of officers of the Pakistan Navy and Air Force.
She said Pakistan’s social problems were manifold and emanated from a host of malpractices, the most significant of them being corruption.
She said if women are educated on the subject, it would have a positive impact and effect in curbing and arresting the prevalent trend in the country. “Pakistan would make faster progress in all fields, if the nation overcomes the menace of corruption. The ladies, especially those studying in schools, colleges and universities can play leading role in uprooting this evil from the society,” she asserted.
She said if parents wanted to inculcate a sense of honesty in their children then they must first hold themselves accountable. For children values are often more “caught than taught” and nothing speaks louder to children than the actions of their parents.
Rashid urged women to raise their voices against corruption and start a crusade right from their homes. She said everyone was a stakeholder in facing the challenge of corruption that caused colossal damage to the country’s economy and was the main hurdle in socio-economic progress and had eroded the rule of law and due process of justice in the country. The bureau is also working to involve children and in this regard have worked with Gogi Studios to produce a comic book titled “Gogi Says NO to Corruption” that has been published with the help of Asian Development Bank.
