Intervention

FPAP formally launched its new intervention titled “Improving the Sexual Reproductive Health and Right (SRHR) of young people across Pakistan” on Tuesday.

This intervention aims to provide information and awareness on life skills' based education, early age marriage and HIV & AIDS and advocacy for inclusion of the same at the programme and policy levels. This intervention will be implemented at grassroots in Rawalpindi and Multan and through Provincial Advocacy and Lobbying Initiatives in Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi, Quetta and Muzaffarabad.

The speakers introduced the project and discussed the future strategy for achieving the desired results of the intervention. Representatives from provincial governments, leading media houses, civil society organisations, youth networks and provincial assemblies’ members from across the country participated in the ceremony.  

Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Minister for Population Welfare, Punjab, was the chief guest who expressed her thought about the initiative. Federal DG Health, Ministry of National Health Services, Dr Shafqat also spoke. MPAs present included Lubna Faisal (Punjab), Raheela Khadim Hussain (Punjab) and Nasrullah Zeri (Balochistan) who shared regional perspectives on three thematic areas of life skills' based education, early age marriage and HIV & AIDS. Representatives from Health, Women Development, Education, Aids Control and Population Welfare Departments from district, provincial and federal governments also spoke about the provincial progress and the current status of inclusion of life skills' based education in curricula, strategies and policies for prevention of early age marriage and HIV & AIDS. Syed Kamal Shah, Chief Executive Officer Rahnuma FPAP, highlighted that support from government departments, civil society organisations and other stakeholder was crucial for the implementation of the project. Moreover, Nabila Malick (Director Advocacy and Resource Mobilisation), Amna Akhsheed (Director Adolescent and women Empowerment) and Regional Directors participated.
