KARACHI: Export industry and exhibitors will participate in Heimtextil in Germany under the umbrella of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), a statement said on Wednesday.

The event will be held in Germany on January 15, 2016. Heimtextil is one of the largest home textile fairs in the world. This year around 2,817 exhibitors from around 68 countries are participating in the event, and like every year more than 60,000 buyers from around 130 countries are expected to place orders at the event.

Pakistan is the fourth largest exhibitor in the event with around 219 exhibitors out of which 55 exhibitors are participating under the TDAP’s support at the Pakistan Pavilion, the statement said.

Home textiles is one of the most important export industry of Pakistan and exhibitors from Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and other important textile producing cities of Pakistan are participating in the event.

Pakistan’s exports to the European Union have increased by around $2 billion since the grant of GSP Plus status from January 1, 2014. Similarly, Pakistan’s exports to Germany have also been estimated to have increased by around 18 percent over this period.

This year’s event carries all the more importance when the European buyers are building upon their last year’s successful business partnerships with Pakistan, especially when Pakistan has gotten back on the track to industrial progress.

With the improvement in energy availability and less power cuts, it is expected that through events like Heimtextil, Pakistan will emerge as one of the major players in the European textile markets.
