RSF seeks safety for journalists in Afghanistan
KABUL: Reporters without borders organization, RSF, and other organizations supporting media in Afghanistan at a gathering on Friday said the security situation in the country is concerning for journalists and the international community should put pressure on both sides to ensure the safety of media workers.
“We call on the international community to ensure the safety of journalists in Afghanistan,” said Reza Moini, the head of RSF’s Iran-Afghanistan desk.
“A major part of our society that is one of the government’s achievements in the last 20 years and is one of the red lines of the international community in their deals with the anti-government elements and other groups and even with the government of Afghanistan is now prone to damage,” said Zia Bomia, deputy head of the joint the government and media committee. RSF official also stressed the need for immediate release of four journalists arrested by the NDS.
