Mahoor out of medals race after second defeat

ISLAMABAD: Mahoor Shahzad lost her second match in the Tokyo Olympics badminton competition on Tuesday resulting in curtains for her.

Mahoor was defeated in straight games by Kirsty Gilmour of United Kingdom.

Kirtsy ranked among the top 30 defeated Mahoor 21-14, 21-14. Earlier, Mahoor lost her opening match against Japanese world No 4 player Yamaghuchi.

“I lost the first match against world No 4 against the Japanese player. When I lost against world No 4 I faced criticism. But she was too good,” Mahoor said.

The Pakistani top badminton girl said she played to her satisfaction against UK world No 26 and ended up losing in a tight match.

“They are too good and stay at the circuit throughout the year. That is why beating them is not an easy task at this point in time. I would work hard in the future and would try to match the best in the world,” she said.
