LAHORE

Lahore High Court Justice Ayesha A Malik Wednesday issued a fresh notice to petroleum ministry and Ogra (oil and gas regulatory authority) on a petition challenging increase in prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) allegedly without approval of lawful authority.

Petitioner’s counsel contended that LPG marketing companies increased price of the gas without issuance of notification from Ogra, the competent authority. The lawyer said the price of the LPG should be decreased keeping in view reduction of 25 dollars per ton in international market but the situation in local market was otherwise.

He argued that the Ogra announced no new prices for the LPG, therefore, the recent hike in the prices was illegal. He asked the court to set aside the new prices for the gas fixed by the marketing companies for being unlawful.

Justice Ayesha A Malik adjourned further hearing till Jan 8 and directed the respondent to submit its reply.

Gang rape accused remand extended: A judicial magistrate of Cantt courts on Wednesday extended for two-day physical remand of eight men for their alleged involvement in gang raping a teenage girl in a hotel. The suspects include Adnan Sanaullah, Abdul Majid, Muhammad Umer, Ameer Ahmad, Haris, Bilawal, Qamar Zaman and Khalid. The police produced the suspects before the court and sought extension in their physical remand for five days to conclude the investigation.

However, the court extended the remand for two days. Meanwhile, the girl was again unable to record her statement as her counsel contended before the court that his client was not in a position to record her statement.
