PESHAWAR: The election was held peacefully for the two seats of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in Peshawar and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday.

Foolproof security arrangements had been made in and outside the polling stations for the polls for LA-45 Kashmir Valley 6 and LA-39 Jammu. There were a total of 6,951 voters while around 400 security personnel were deployed at polling stations.

Our correspondent adds from Mansehra: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Abdul Majid Khan running for LA-45 Valley 6 was leading at most of the polling stations in the upper parts of Hazara division. The polling started at 8 am in Mansehra and Kohistan and largely remained peaceful. However, a brawl took place at a women’s polling station in Shinkiari area in Mansehra.

According to unofficial results announced by the Election Commission in Mansehra, Majid Khan had a lead against his closest rival and an independent candidate Khan Abdul Nasir Khan. “The PTI is leading at almost all 55 polling stations across Mansehra,” Salma Arshad, the joint secretary of the PTI women wing in Hazara division said. In Kohistan, 15 of the total 17 votes were polled. The PTI candidate received 13 while independent candidate Khan Abdul Nasir polled only two votes.
