PESHAWAR: Speakers at a function on Monday asked the students to adopt innovative methods while conducting research on various topics and it could be only done through extensive reading of relevant contents.
The function was arranged under the auspices of Youth Spirit Spark (YSS), an organisation of the Government Degree College Zaida, Swabi, where students, teachers and young research scholars showed up in large numbers, said a press release. A literary magazine titled ‘Gandhara Sindhu’ brought out by Government Degree College Zaida, Swabi, was also unveiled.
The speakers, including Prof Aseem Khan, Prof Syed Zubair Shah, Prof Ziaullah Khan and others said that though excessive use of social media had taken students away from reading books, yet some teachers instilled the spirit of pursuing research activities towards a productive academic career.
They said that educational institutions should come up with new ideas to revive the habit of extensive reading among young students at every level. Prof Syed Zubair Shah while chairing the event pointed out that the basic objective of launching the literary magazine in a Peshawar college was to tell students of the urban institutions that young students studying in peripheral colleges were not short of anyone when it came to creative writing.
Prof Ziaullah Khan said that the Zaida Degree College was very young in the area but teachers and students worked hard to bring out a quality literary magazine, which would become a source of inspiration for young minds to raise questions and answer them in a positive manner and it would enhance a spirit of investigation and research along scientific line.
The magazine has been divided into three parts - English, Urdu and Pashto and every section carried articles and features on important topics while poems were added to develop a literary taste.
Usama Yaseen, first year student of ZDC on the occasion said that district Swabi had been the centre of Gandhara civilization in ancient times and the next edition should devote more space to the local heritage and culture.
Principal and patron-in-chief Prof Aseem Khan said that his administration would spend more to improve the quality of the stuff and would include contents originally contributed by young students.
