Two women in bus wounded in crossfire between police, robbers
Two women travelling in a bus were wounded on Friday in an exchange of fire between police and robbers near Defence Morr.
The injured women were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. They were identified as 50-year-old Zar Pari, wife of Niaz Ali, and 36-year-old Kulsoom, wife of Ghulam Habib.
Police said the shoot-out occurred when some cops were carrying out snap checking in the area. They signalled two men on a motorcycle to stop but instead of stopping, they opened fire on police and tried to escape.
In retaliation, police returned fire. During the shoot-out, one of the suspects managed to escape and the other got into a bus to avoid arrest. It was then, the two women travelling in the bus were wounded in firing.
Police claimed that the women were injured by the robber’s firing but they added that they were carrying out an investigation to ascertain whose shots caused injuries to the women.
The suspect in the bus was arrested. He was identified as Hasnain Ali. A case has been registered.
