Lahore receives first rain of monsoon

LAHORE: The city received moderate but scattered rain here on Monday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

The rain started early morning and continued in intervals in various city localities. The rain also slowed down traffic on city roads resulting in traffic jams at various points especially at most of the city’s underpasses.

Managing Director Wasa Syed Zahid Aziz and his team while other officials of district administration as well as LWMC were in the field and cleared the stagnant rainwater from the roads.

MD Wasa also visited all the disposal stations of the city to inspect their working. He also directed the field teams to remain alert in case of more rains.

On the other hand, Met officials said strong monsoon currents from Bay of Bengal were penetrating in upper and lower parts of the country while a Shallow westerly wave was also present over upper parts of the country.

They predicted that partly cloudy weather was expected in upper and central parts with chances of rain-wind/thundershower and gusty winds were expected in Kashmir, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and Sindh. Heavy falls were also expected in Upper Punjab, Kashmir and Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa at isolated places during the period.

Rainfall was also recorded at several cities including Sialkot (Airport 198, City 123), Noorpur Thal, Jhelum 98, Jhang 92, Mangla 70, Narowal 67, Gujrat 63, Toba Tek Singh 60, Mandi Bahauddin 50, Gujranwala 57, Hafizabad 36, Kasur 26, Murree 21, Chakwal 20, Rawalpindi (Chaklala 20, Shamsabad 09), Islamabad (Bokra 08, Saidpur 07, Zero Point 06, Golra 04), Joharabad 12, Faisalabad 06, Sargodha (City 04), Kakul 175, Saidu Sharif 104, Malam Jabba 50, Balakot 39, Dir (Lower 20, Upper 10), Bannu 10, Mirkhani 06, Kotli 41 , Garhi Dupatta 18, Muzaffarabad (City 09, Airport 05), Rawalakot 07, Islamkot 49, Karachi (Gulshan Hadid 35, PAF (Faisal) 32, Saadi Town 28, Landi 19, University Road 16), Mirpur Khas 29, Hyderabad 28, Chacharo 19, Chhor 15, Nagarparker 12. Thatta, Mithi 11, Tando Jam, Diplo 06, Badin 03, Bagrote 06, Bunji 02, Kalat 31, Panjgur 10 and Zhob 02.

Monday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Nokkundi where mercury reached 47°C while in Lahore it was 30.2°C and minimum was 28.4°C.
