Police on Monday claimed to have arrested three brothers for their involvement in the killing of a man whose body had been found inside a car in the parking area of the cattle market on the Superhighway more than a week ago.

The 36-year-old man identified as Owais Hameed had been found dead on July 3. Police had recovered a bottle of liquor and a women’s purse from the car.

The deceased was a resident of Lyari’s Baghdadi area, and had left home to buy gold, but his body was later found in the car. His family had also filed a missing complaint at the Baghdadi police station.

Police claimed that the three brothers they had arrested were behind the incident, saying that they had killed the man for his gold. Officials added that the suspects had been friends with the victim, but they killed him to steal the gold.

Police said that the suspect Zainul Abideen was the mastermind who had added poison to the liquor and offered it to the victim, adding that after he was dead, the brothers made off with the gold. “The suspects had sold some of the gold and melted the remaining,” Investigations SP Altaf Hussain told the media. Police have also taken a jeweller, Abdul Aziz, into custody for buying the gold from the suspects, and they have recovered the precious metal.
