Rawalpindi logs one more corona death, 176 test positive
Rawalpindi : Coronavirus illness, COVID-19 has claimed another life from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours taking the death toll from the district to 999 however alarming is the fact that the number of cases being tested positive from the district and Islamabad Capital Territory has been showing a tremendous increase since the advent of July.
As many as 176 patients from ICT and Rawalpindi district have been tested positive in the last 24 hours that is the highest number of cases reported in a day from the region in the last six weeks.
The virus did not claim any life from ICT in the last 24 hours though 781 patients belonging to the federal capital have already lost their lives due to the illness.
It is important that the number of active cases from both Rawalpindi and ICT is on a continuous rise at least for the last one week as well over 470 active cases have been added to the existing pool of active cases from the twin cities in the last seven days. The situation that is becoming worse can be gauged from the fact that well over 860 new patients have been confirmed positive from the region in the first eight days of July.
According to In-charge District COVID-19 Cell Rawalpindi Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Jawad Zahid, the positivity ratio of COVID-19 has been recorded as 4.49 per cent in the last 24 hours. It is important that the positivity from Rawalpindi had dropped to around one per cent at the end of June.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Thursday has revealed that after the addition of 86 active cases from ICT in the last 24 hours, the total number of active cases has jumped to 1,308 which was 951 on June 30. On the other hand, the number of active cases from Rawalpindi district was 275 on Thursday that had dropped down to 125 on June 30.
In the last 24 hours, as many as 104 new patients were tested positive for the disease from ICT taking the tally to 83,259 of which 81,170 have so far recovered. On Thursday, after the addition of 72 new patients from Rawalpindi district, the total number of patients so far tested positive for COVID-19 from the district has reached 25,065 of which 23,790 patients have recovered. On Thursday, 23 confirmed patients of the illness from Rawalpindi district were undergoing treatment at the healthcare facilities in town, while some 253 confirmed patients of the disease were in isolation at their homes.
