The electronic news media was abuzz with reports on Thursday that the Sindh government was going to appoint the provincial law and environment adviser, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, as the new administrator of Karachi.
The reports aired on TV news media said the notification to appoint Barrister Wahab, who also acts as the spokesperson for the Sindh government, would be issued once the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah concludes his current visit to the United States.
Responding to such reports, Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah wrote on Twitter that Barrister Wahab possessed superb capability to work as the administrator of Karachi.
Shah said the law adviser was a dynamic young man and he had the complete realisation of the problems of Karachi. “If he [Murtaza Wahab] becomes the administrator then it will be a welcoming step and he as being the son of the soil and a Bhutto’s loyalist will do his best to take part in the progress of Karachi,” read the tweet of the information minister.
Speaking at a press conference, Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi Chairman Afaq Ahmed said he would welcome the appointment of Barrister Wahab as the new administrator of Karachi. Presently, a senior bureaucrat, Laeeq Ahmed, has been serving as the administrator of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
