No fear of losing my place in team: Sohaib
ISLAMABAD: Sohaib Maqsood Wednesday said that he has no fear of losing a place in the national team as the same turned out to be the main reason behind his failure at the very outset of his international career five years back.
In a virtual media talk, Sohaib said he has a plan to play fearless cricket now when he was given a second chance.
“When I made my debut over five years back, I was too careful and could not play my neutral game. Ultimately, I lost my place. Now I would be a different Sohaib that you have seen in the second leg of PSL VI. No matter where the management asked me to play, I would try to give my hundred percent and try to play my neutral game. Instead of getting too much cautious, I would start playing the game I am meant for. I will definitely get what the destiny has for me so there will be no fear this time around.
“I have already proved myself in the PSL and hope to carry forward that momentum into international cricket now. I have left the element of fear far behind and am looking forward to representing the country at international level in the best state of mind.”
The best batsman of the PSL VI said his effort would now be to cement his place in the national team while playing his neutral game.
“I would not let the opportunity go away easily, instead would try my best to make it count. I have always been a very consistent performer at the domestic level.”
Sohaib who had played league cricket in England for almost three years, said conditions here are nothing new for him. “You definitely need sometimes to adjust but these conditions are nothing new for me as I have played league cricket here.”
Sohaib praised Andy Flower and help he had extended to Multan Sultans batsmen. “He is definitely one of the best coaches in the world and I am really thankful to him for working on my batting and making it more result oriented. He has not only worked on my batting he also worked on others and helped all the Multan Sultans batsmen to show their best part.”
Sohaib rated the England line up as one of the best around. “England is one of the best teams around. They are good at home and have already won the World Cup. So, we have to play our best cricket to dislodge them. Pakistan have the ability to beat any team but for that every player will have to give his best.”
