Cycle ride events held for healthy lifestyle

LAHORE:Two different cycle rides were organised in the City on Sunday to create awareness among the public about better and healthy lifestyle and physical fitness.

The Ministry of Narcotics Control Pakistan and United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) collaborated and observed Sunday as International Day against Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a cycle ride from Liberty Roundabout.

The people from all walks of life, including families, assembled at the venue at 5:30am for the activity titled “Ride and Fun” and they paddled around four kilometres towards SIddiq Trade Centre and then back to the starting point.

At the finish point pamphlets on the topic of drugs abuse were also distributed among the participants and onlookers. The members of the organising committee gave a brief description of drugs abuse and the damage it caused to society.

Later in the evening, in a youth-led initiative titled “Ride Out Diabetes” was organized in Defence Housing Authority in collaboration with DHA Lahore, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, Bikestan, Cycling Defence Lahore and a multinational company.

A large number of cyclists took part in the event and created raise awareness among people about diabetes management. This three kilometres cycle ride stated from DHA Business Hub Phase 8 and end at the same point after taking a U-turn from Defence Housing Authority roundabout.

Dr Atif Munir, Dr S Raifurul Islam and Dr Abbas Raza extended their full support to the initiative and called for arrangements of more such rides. In both the rides there were no winners or losers but it was an awareness campaign.
