Man held for torturing elderly woman
Police on Wednesday arrested a man for torturing an elderly woman in Surjani Town. Police took action after the video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, the man and three women could be seen torturing the woman. Some people were trying to save the woman but the suspects continued to beat her. Later, police conducted a raid and arrested Imran alias Mani.
Police said the victim did not approach them so the case would be registered on behalf of the state.
Elderly man shot dead
Police arrested a woman after her elderly husband was shot dead in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s 13-D/2 on Wednesday.
After getting information, police and rescuers reached the crime scene and transported the casualty to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy, where the victim was identified
as 65-year-old Haq Nawaz, son of Nabi Bukhsh.
According to SHO Afzal Arain, the man worked as a driver at a bungalow in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and police have arrested his wife, Sajida, and are looking for her male friend for their alleged involvement.
The officer said that during initial course of interrogation, it has been learnt that the victim’s wife had a relationship with a person, namely Ramzan, and the victim had also seen his wife with Ramzan a few days ago. At this, Nawaz had beaten up his wife.
Police said the victim was on his way to work when the suspect, Ramzan, along with his companion arrived on a rickshaw and shot and killed him before fleeing from the scene. The victim was shot thrice and died at the spot.
Raids are continuing to arrest Ramzan and his companion, who have reportedly escaped to Rahim Yar Khan. Police have registered a case against them on behalf of Imran, a nephew of the deceased person.
