Rawalpindi: No death due to coronavirus illness, COVID-19 was reported from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours while 64 new cases were reported from the region taking total number of patients so far registered from the twin cities to 106,888 on Thursday.
The population in the region witnessed a day without reporting of COVID-19 death on Thursday after a week, Both the mortality and the morbidity of the infection has already started showing a downward trend in the twin cities however the positivity rate of COVID-19 from Rawalpindi has been recorded as 2.19 per cent in the last 24 hours.
Many health experts, however believe that the outbreak is still intact and there is a need to bring positivity rate further down and individuals must follow all SOPs to minimize losses being caused by the illness. Out of a total of 106888 patients so far reported from the twin cities, 1761 patients died of the illness.
In-charge District COVID-19 Cell Rawalpindi Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Jawad Zahid informed ‘The News’ on Thursday that out of 821 samples tested for COVID-19 in the district in the last 24 hours, 18 were tested positive at a positivity rate of 2.19 per cent.
He added that to date, as many as 565589 persons have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the district including 535,773 individuals from general public and 29816 health workers. From Rawalpindi district, a total of 24,635 patients have so far been reported of which 988 have lost their lives while 23,456 have recovered from the illness. On Thursday, there were a total of 191 active cases of the disease from Rawalpindi of which 23 patients were hospitalized in town while 168 were in isolation at their homes.
Meanwhile, another 46 patients have been tested positive for COVID-19 from ICT taking total number of patients so far reported from the federal capital to 82,253 of which 80,216 have recovered while 773 have lost their lives. On Thursday, the number of active cases from the federal capital was recorded as 1,264.
