KARACHI: After missing the Karachi leg, Multan Sultans former captain Shan Masood fell for 14 in his first game against Peshawar Zalmi in Abu Dhabi leg of the HBL PSL-6 on June 13. But on Wednesday the left-hander showed his class, hitting a 42-ball 73, featuring seven fours and four sixes to guide Multan Sultans to 183-5 against Quetta Gladiators. The feat earned him the man-of-the-match award.

Shan was happy that he got a chance to score big and he did that. “You know different formats have different demands and sometimes it is good that a T20 game allows you to express yourself. Sometimes you have to take the chance because you have much batting to come so it allowed me to express myself freely and luckily it paid off today,” Shan said after Multan crushed Quetta by 110 runs, the heaviest victory by runs in the PSL history after Quetta were folded for just 73.

Shan said that powerplay plays a key role in a team’s win. “It’s very important how we go about the powerplay. We have seen games won and lost in the first six overs. The plan was that Rizwan or I whoever clicked should go deep. I got the start, secured an opportunity to hit Nawaz for two boundaries and so got momentum. My effort was to take along that momentum throughout my innings,” he said.

Shan said that they would try to win the next game to enter the playoffs. “It’s all about momentum. Now it is in our hands as we have to win one out of two games. We will try to secure the win in our next game and make things easier for us,” he said.

After being dropped from Pakistan’s Test squad, Shan has worked harder to improve his skills and he demonstrated that on Wednesday. “Our job is to learn and I am trying to learn as much as possible,” Shan said.
