PU, Uzbek varsity to work jointly

LAHORE:Punjab University and Uzbekistan's Nukus State Pedagogical Institute have vowed to strengthen academic relations and promote cultural activities to bring both nations closer to each other.

According to a press release in this regard, a delegation from the Uzbek university visited Punjab University and called on PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed at his office here on Thursday.

The Uzbek university’s vice-rector, Kalkhanov Jumabaevich, was also among the delegates. Pro VC Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar and other officers were also present. Kalkhanov Jumabaevich said that he wanted to promote bilateral relations with Punjab University and said that both nations shared many common values. He stressed the need to enhance people-to-people contact and said that he would never forget the love and hospitality of Pakistanis. PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmed said that PU would extend full support the Uzbek universities to raise their academic standards. He said “We would learn from each other.” He said the universities of both countries would jointly work on various research projects and organise seminars and conference, etc. He said that PU would also offer scholarships to Uzbek students.

distinction: Punjab University’s Remote Sensing GIS and Climatic Research Lab, National Center of GIS and Space Applications, has got the status of partner organisation of the United Nations’ Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development to supports its objectives under its “Institutional Capacity Building and Professional Development Programme, ICBPDP”.
