LAHORE: DG Anti-Corruption Establishment, (ACE), Punjab Gohar Nafees launched public awareness campaign against corruption “Chai Paani” in public offices on Thursday.
While launching the public awareness campaign Gohar directed all the regional directors to speed up crackdown against corrupt officials/officers in government offices. He said the major purpose of the campaign was to begin debate on national media about the acceptance of petty corruption in the name of “Chai Paani” by masses in public offices. He said it was unfortunate to observe that people don’t even seem bothered about giving away small bribes to lower tier officials working in government offices for the job they are bound to do anyway.
He said Anti-Corruption Establishment being the premier investigation agency in Punjab was striving hard to curb the social menace of corruption under its legal framework but the cooperation of the masses was important to get the job done.
Reportedly, as many as seven corrupt officials/officers including one Naib Tehsildar from Mianwali, two Inspectors and two Patwaris among four others were arrested red handed from various cities of the Punjab.
DG ACE made it clear that there was zero tolerance policy towards every kind of corruption in Punjab. He added that ACE would leave no stone unturned to make this campaign successful across the province.
