Lawyers observe strike against murder of colleague
PESHAWAR: The lawyers on Tuesday stayed away from court proceedings to record their protest against the murder of a senior lawyer in Bannu a day earlier.
Speaking at a meeting, the lawyers, including Syed Mubashir Shah, Nauman Kakakhel, Peshawar High Court Bar President Behlol Khattak, District Bar President Amjad Ali Marwat, Qazi Jawad and Khalid Anwar Afridi and others condemned the killing of senior lawyer Bashirur Rahman Burki and demanded the government to bring the culprits to justice.
The lawyers urged the provincial government to pass the lawyers protection bill to ensure security to the community.
“We have been demanding the government to provide security to the lawyers. The government should give us firearms licences if it cannot provide us security,” said Behlol Khattak.
