Environment resources management discussed

LAHORE:Punjab University College of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CEES) organised an international webinar on the eve of “World Environment Day”.

The theme of the webinar was “Eco-System Restoration” in which the speakers shared their views for wise management of environmental resources, pollution control and restoration of ecosystem. In his address School of Environment, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China Dr Giovanni Cagnetta emphasised on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

Dr Dean Muruven, from Global Freshwater Policy Lead, WWF, Netherlands, stressed on the water policy and global environmental issues. Government College University Lahore’s Prof Dr Abdullah Yasar addressed the water quality and quantity issues faced by the Pakistan.

Principal CEES Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad highlighted the current ecosystem situation at national and international level. He appreciated the cooperation and full support from PU VC Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar for organisation of this event. He also appreciated the efforts being made by Pakistan to restore ecosystem. A number of national and international professionals, researchers and academicians participated in the event via Zoom-team, Facebook, Instagram and other online media. The graduate and postgraduate students of the CEES also participated in the event both online and physically.

MOU signed: University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and the CMH Lahore Medical College have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote academic and research cooperation. According to a press release, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman from UVAS while Principal CMH Medical College Maj-Gen (r) Naeem Naqi HI (M) and Director Office of Research Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) Prof Dr Rabiea Bilal from the CMH signed the MoU in a ceremony held at UVAS City Campus. UVAS Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, faculty members and CMH College Vice-Principal Brig (r) Muhammad Arif Mahmood were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS’ doors were always open for technical assistance of professionals and the university was willing to host capacity building training of faculty members. Maj-Gen (r) Naeem Naqi acknowledged the role of UVAS and said this cooperation would be very beneficial for both the institutions. According to the MOU, both the institutions will collaborate on exchange of academic, administrative staff and students for joint scientific research and studies.

Both the institutions will participate in seminars and academics meetings and will also exchange published academic materials and other information.
