UET teachers hold rally for allowance
LAHORE:Faculty members of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore taking out a peaceful protest rally at the campus here on Thursday demanded provision of technical allowance to the university teachers.
The rally was taken out on the call of UET’s Teaching Staff Association (TSA). Addressing the rally participants, UET-TSA president Prof Dr Amjad Hussain and general secretary Prof Dr Muhammad Asif Rafiq demanded Technical Allowance (TA) / Engineering Allowance (EA) at the rate of 1.5 times of the basic salary on the analogy of Engineering / Technical Allowance granted to the engineers working in various departments of Punjab government.
The participants carried banners bearing slogans related to the grant of the Technical Allowance. The UET-TSA president stressed that despite their higher qualification and extremely important contributions in terms of developing a critical mass of technical human resource for the industrial needs of the country, the engineering faculty of UET was facing disparity.
“Their salaries are so low that they are not comparable even to the allowances drawn by other government officers working in same cadres,” he said and added that the TSA was going to hold a press conference next week where a plan for the future protests shall be announced if the demand for the grant of technical allowance was not met. Meanwhile, Teaching Staff Association of UET Taxila also held a protest for the same cause.
