AUF, California University to work together for quality seeds

LAHORE:A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the University of California and Agricultural University Faisalabad (AUF) under which the two universities will collaborate on research, quality seed production, and increasing the productivity of crops.

According to a statement issued from Governor House here on Thursday, during the visit of Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar to the United States, a cooperation agreement has been signed between the University of California and the Agricultural University Faisalabad. The agreement was signed by Punjab Governor and Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad- Ch Muhammad Sarwar and Dr Joanna Regleska on behalf of the University of California.

As per the agreement, the University of California and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad will work together in the production of quality seeds, increased productivity and other areas of research. The University of California will also support reforms in universities and will collaborate at graduate and undergraduate levels.

On the occasion of the signing of the agreement, Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar said that the PTI government was taking practical steps to introduce reforms in universities and through agreements with world-renowned universities to improve the research culture at the universities, adding that the agreement between the University of California and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad was a landmark achievement that would ameliorate agricultural practices in Punjab through technology transfer and expanding research on quality seed production and increased productivity. Ch Muhammad Sarwar said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan was paying utmost attention to research in universities and all resources are being used for this purpose. "We are ensuring transparency and merit in universities and universities are also being purged of political interference," he added.
