Initiative for preservation of GB musical heritage begins

Islamabad : Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) office in Gilgit-Baltistan started preservation of centuries-old music of the area.

The PNCA team initiated the task of preservation of heritage of GB and recorded the folk music, songs and tunes on traditional musical instruments with modern recording techniques in the state of the art studio.

A large number of art-related personalities were interviewed who not only enriched the already available information on the subject, but added more historical background to make it more attractive and valuable for the generations to come.

Legendary senior artist, musician, composer, and poet Jan Ali recorded ten songs and three tunes on shahnai.

Director General, PNCA Dr. Fouzia Saeed said that "the two personalities from Gilgit-Baltistan the Minister for culture Raja Nasir Ali Khan and secretary culture Zafar Taj played a key role in the realisation of PNCA idea of its office in GB and project of preservation of art and music of the area.

It is due to their special entrust that PNCA achieved the role of sating up PNCA's office in Gilgit-Baltistan and now they provided full sport and help in recording historical music of the area.

Their keen interest and love with the culture of the soil made it possible to bring it to the limelight which certainly will be a source of promotion of tourism and development of the area.

PNCA will release an audio-video album titled ‘Gems of GB’. It will be the opening of the mega-musical series followed by the recording and preservation of folk musical assets of Pakistan.
