APS martyrs remembered
BAHAWALPUR: Like other parts of the country, functions were held by government NGOs in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar on Wednesday to pay tribute to the APS Peshawar martyrs.
The main events were held at Dring Stadium by the Bahawalpur district administration and at APS Bahawalnagar. In Bahawalpur, prayers were offered and a one-minute silence observed followed by a march past by Rescue 1122 and Elite Force personnel, while a police band performed on national songs.
Provincial Minister Malik Iqbal Channar, Station Commander Bahawalpur Garrison Brig Shahnawaz and Commissioner Cap (r) Saqib Zafar were the special guests on the occasion.
Separately, civil society organised a function outside Fareed Gate and the ATI activists of IUB took out a rally from Abbasia Campus to Fareed Gate.
At APS Bahawalnagar, students paid rich tributes to martyrs and presented a tableau.
In Rahim Yar Khan, Aurat Foundation and other NGOs organised a rally from Town Hall to the local press club. Later in the evening, social activists lit candles at Adda Khanpur.
Special events were also held in Chishtian, Ahmadpur East, Haroonabad, Hasilpur, Fort Abbas, Khanpur, Yazman, Sadiqabad, Liaqatpur and Uchh Sharif.
Death sentence awarded in murder case

BAHAWALPUR: Additional Sessions Judge Chishtian Imran Khursheed awarded death sentence to Imtiaz Ahmad and acquitted his brother Ayaz Ahmad and father Falk Sher on Wednesday in a murder case.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 as compensation for the heirs of victim. According to prosecution, the convict had shot dead Haji Balharr in Basti Azeem on Feb 29, 2013.
