Moot on trends of language, literature starts at AU
Islamabad: A two-day international conference on Emerging Trends of Researching Language, Linguistics and Literature (ETRL3) started at the Air University here on Tuesday.
Air University Department of Humanities has organised the maiden international conference to highlight the importance of language and literature with particular focus on contemporary trends of research. The conference aims at bringing together leading social scientists, researchers, scholars and academicians to cultivate a research environment in Pakistan by building an academic nexus among the researchers nationally and globally.
Addressing to opening ceremony, chief guest renowned scholar Professor Dr. Ummul Khair Ahmad from Malaysia said that education is the only sustainable investment because all other meaningful investments emanate from education. In-fact it is the only hope for the survival of a society. She admired the efforts of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and said that higher education plays a significant role in developing a sensibility of any society in terms of critical thinking and research. The inclination towards research, knowledge creation and its dissemination is what we need as a nation in order to cope with the latest challenges and issues of our society. She appreciated Air University for organizing this mega event which will unfold new aspects of research in the field of language, linguistics and literature. She said that it is indeed commendable that within a short span of time Air University has taken up a visionary approach by promoting quality education and research. The faculty and students deserve applause for their mutual efforts and proactive role in promoting research. This conference is a timely step in the right direction and reveals the research oriented vision and mission of Air University.
Air University Vice Chancellor Air Vice Marshal (r) Faaiz Amir stated in his speech that in-line with our vision and mission of a research oriented university, we are dedicated to a comprehensive higher education system with a focus on inspired teaching and innovative research. This conference is a way forward in the cause of higher education and research. As we know that all over the world higher education institutions are striving hard to cope with new challenges in various fields of study. In this regard, they are quite successful in bringing an infrastructure that prepares scholars to carry out intensive research. “We, in Pakistan, need the same infrastructure and dedication to bring innovation in respective fields. I am happy that Air University is one such institution that is motivated to bring an infrastructure based on critical inquiry and research,” he said and appreciated HEC’s role for sponsoring such an important mega event in Air University.
Conference Chair and Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Air University, Professor Dr. Wasima Shehzad welcomed the distinguished guests and apprised about the aim of conference. She said, “It is evident from history that no society could make progress without sound social, political and cultural foundation. In contemporary scenario, the need of a peaceful and culturally, socially and politically harmonious society has increased manifold.” She added that this conference was a step to realize the dream of a peaceful and balanced society.
