TMA launches crackdown against encroachers

Rawalpindi: On the directions of the Lahore High Court, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) of Rawal Town launched a crackdown against encroachers in different parts of the city.

On complaints lodged by citizens, LHC issued orders to the civic bodies of Rawalpindi city for cleaning of all kind of encroachments both temporary and permanent.

Following the directives of the LHC, the enforcement cell on the orders of the administrator, TMA launched crack down in Raja Bazaar, Sadiqabad, Commercial Market, Saidpur Road, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Liaquat Road, Trunk Bazaar, Sadiqabad, Chakri Road etc. the TMA staff along with a contingent of police removed temporary encroachments which included push carts, stalls and took their belongings into their custody.

The TMA staff also issued fines worth Rs30,000 and arrested 72 encroachers on charges of showing resistance during drive over violation of the law.

TMA official spokesman, Tahir Mahmood Khan, when approached confirmed that an anti-encroachment drive has been launched on the orders of the LHC. He also confirmed reports of seizing valuables and imposing challans worth Rs30,000 besides arresting the encroachers.
