Teaching assistants warn of sit-in

PESHAWAR: The teaching assistants on Sunday threatened to boycott classes and stage sit-in if their genuine demands were not met forthwith.

Speaking at a meeting of the district coordinators of the Teaching Assistants Survival Society (TASS) here, General Secretary Aqib Khan Jadoon lambasted the government’s pathetic attitude towards the problems of teaching assistants who were recruited in the colleges of the province a year ago.

He said the government’s cold shoulder response to resolve the issues of teaching assistants was a glaring example of its failure to materialise the slogan of ‘Education Emergency’.

The organisation’s general secretary said the teaching assistants were recruited in a fair and transparent manner but the government set tough terms and conditions for the talented youth as far as their service was concerned.

According to these conditions, a teaching assistant will not be considered a government servant and s/he can be sacked anytime without assigning any reason.
