24,000 teachers to be recruited: CM

NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Friday said that 24,000 teachers would be recruited in two years to improve the education system in the province.
Speaking to councillors of Jehangira and Nowshera tehsils, he said that the schools had shortage of 24,000 teachers. “About 10,000 teachers would be recruited in the current year while 14,000 in the next year,” he added.
The chief minister said that those criticising his government for not launching mega projects in the province should understand that investing in the future of the children was more than mega projects.
Pervez Khattak said that construction work in schools would not be undertaken by the Construction and Works Department but by the Parents-Teacher Committee. He asked the masses and councillors to regularly check the quality of work, adding that elected representatives and local population would be responsible if the committee’s work was below standard.
The chief minister said that up to Rs2 million funds would be allocated for primary schools while 20 percent of the local government funds would be allocated for middle and high schools.
He asked all the councillors to work with the government for the development of the province. “The councillors belonging to all political parties should work with the provincial government to make the local government system a success,” he urged.
Pervez Khattak said that a list of the problems at the local level was being prepared which would include all the problems faced by people in any area in the province. He urged the councillors to identify the problems which could be addressed on priority basis.
He admitted that the provincial government had received enormous development funds that needed to be spent on the wellbeing of the masses prudently. He said that the government had decided that patwari would not establish office outside the patwar circle. “The government is considering constructing patwar khanas,” he said.
