The recent murders of Zaman Mehsud in Tank and Hafeez-ur-Rehman in Kohat have proven that the lives of journalists in Pakistan are in danger. According to the president of the Khyber Union of Journalists, Nisar Mehmood and the president of the Peshawar Press Club, Syed Bukhar Shah Bacha, over 100 journalists have been sentenced to death in the last few years in the country.
