Late Amin Fahim’s name likely to be struck off from NICL case on Dec 9

Due to non-appearance of late Makhdoom Amin Fahim’s attorney at an accountability court (AC) on Tuesday, his name was stayed from being deleted from the list of accused nominated in the multi-million rupee National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam.
The court – headed by Munawwar Sultana - fixed December 9 as the next date of hearing.
The case was registered after the accused were said to have paid Rs90 million, from the NICL’s funds, for a 10 acre plot against a maximum market price of Rs20 million, causing a loss of Rs70 million to the national exchequer.
The court had indicted the late Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader along with 10 others on September 11, this year. His accomplices were identified as former secretary of the commerce ministry Suleman Ghani, former chairman NICL Ayaz Khan Niyazi, directors Syed Hur Riahi Gardezi, Syed Naveed Hassan Zaidi, Amin Qasim Dada, Mohammad Zahoor along with two other people Amir Hussain and Khawaja Akbar Butt.
Fahim and Ghani were indicted in absentia as the court accepted their counsel Haq Nawaz Halepoto's plea of exemption from appearance in court, since both were out of country.
The counsel for the late PPP leader had submitted an application informing the court of his death, however, due to his lawyer’s absence the court adjourned the hearing till December 9. The senior PPP leader passed away at a private hospital on the morning of November 21. He was diagnosed with blood cancer earlier this year and was receiving treatment abroad.
