CM says AJIP merger shows public confidence in govt

NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said on Monday the merger of the Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan (AJIP) into Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) showed public confidence in the performance of the provincial government.
Speaking at a public meeting in Amankot area here, he said that the PTI had become a big political power of the country. “I see a bright future for the PTI. We are introducing a system that would help ease the hardships of the common man,” he added.
He said the PTI had improved governance and ended the bribery and ‘sifarish’ culture in recruitment in the government departments.
Criticising the rival political parties for criticism of the provincial government, he said that those criticising his government had promoted corruption and nepotism during their rule. “They destroyed the state institutions and plundered public money,” he added.
Responding to the criticism by the Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, the chief minister said the opposition parties should produce evidence instead of levelling baseless allegation against him. Pervez Khattak said the allegations levelled against him by the former minister for mines and minerals Ziaullah Afridi were baseless. He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission (KPEC) was an autonomous body and had been set up to take the corrupt to task to rid the province of this menace.
“When KPEC lays hand on the corrupt, they start making hue and cry,” he added.The chief minister said that when the PTI came into power there were bomb blasts and corruption. Male practices were at its peak in the province. “We inherited a militancy-hit province. We restored peace and carried out proper legislation to revamp the decades-old faulty system,” he added.Pervez Khattak said constructing new buildings for schools, hospitals and police stations were not change. “Bringing change in the public behaviour is the real change,” he added.
