GUJRANWALA: A PTI candidate has accused PML-N candidate Ghulam Dastgir of changing the result of Union Council No-74 election during transportation of ballot papers to the RO office.
In an application to the RO, PTI candidate Akram Gadhi said that he was unofficially declared successful after counting of votes. Later, he was informed that his rival candidate Ghulam Dastgir had won the elections. He alleged that his rival candidate along with his 14 companions, including Rizwan, Sanaullah, Jehangir, Jibran, Nadeem and Bashir Ahmad, intercepted the polling team when it was going back to the RO office and allegedly snatched blank and filled ballot papers and changed the result at gunpoint. After receiving the application, the RO has started investigation.
Meanwhile, Tatle Aali police have registered a case against 15 accused on the charges of rigging and snatching ballot papers.
APPLICATIONS FILED FOR RECOUNTING: Dozens of defeated candidates have filed applications to the district returning officer for recounting and investigation of rigging charges.
The DRO has forwarded the applications to the returning officers concerned with remarks that the decision must be taken in two days and the final list of successful candidates be placed on November 23.
