LAHORE
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Organiser in Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said on Thursday that Election Commission of Pakistan had failed to hold free and transparent local government elections.
Talking to media, Sarwar said that the ECP had set a “new record” of irregularities and failed to conduct free and transparent polls even in the second phase of LG polls.
Sarwar reiterated that under the supervision of ECP and bureaucracy of Punjab, only electoral fraud was expected rather than free and fair polls. He alleged that incumbents had resorted to violence against PTI candidates and workers for the LG elections. Fake cases were registered against PTI workers, he added. “PTI has been demanding the deployment of army and Rangers in and outside polling stations from day one to ensure free and transparent polls”, Sarwar said. He said that PTI would participate vigorously in third and final phase of LG polls and claimed that PTI would keep on raising its voice for “change” and prosperity of the people of Pakistan.
