Annual exhibition and student council installation ceremony held

The Student Council Investiture Ceremony and the Annual Exhibition 2015 of FG Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road, were held here on Thursday. Colonel Rana Munnawar Hussain, deputy director of the Federal Government Educational Institutions-Cantonment and Garrison, was the chief guest on the occasion.
To display the creative blooming of young ingenious minds, the exhibition was held in collaboration with the departments of fine arts, home economics, computer science, physics, chemistry and biology. The exhibition was inaugurated at the Fine Arts Department where yearly projects of the students were displayed. Their work included tiles, textiles, cards, posters, abstract painting, sketching, stenciling, landscape, still-life, watercolours and others. Designs of different civilisations in pottery painting were highly appreciated. Students from 1st year to 4th year employed different mediums such as pencils, charcoal, watercolours, oil colours, crayons, acrylics under the guidance of their teachers to produce some real gems of art and design.
An equally fascinating and colourful segment of the exhibition was observed in the Home Economics Department. Tastefully and skillfully made projects of students such as trolley sets, kitchen sets, collage, cushion work, patchwork, frocks, baby sets, card-making and flower arrangements (fresh and dry) were simply stunning. They truly reflected the consistent efforts of students and teachers.
The students of Computer Science Department exhibited their skills in software projects. Students presented projects on ‘The Historical Places of Pakistan’ and ‘Student Record System’.
The Department of Physics displayed models of ‘Home Automatic Module’, ‘Alarm System’ and ‘Digital Automatic System’.
In Biology, students made models of ‘Transformation of Bacteria’, ‘Carbon Cycle’, ‘Haemodialysis’ and ‘DNA Replication’.
The Department of Chemistry displayed projects on ‘Healing of Ozone Layer’, ‘Control Process’ and ‘Waste Water Treatment.
After taking a round of the exhibition, the chief guest proceeded to install the newly-elected members of the student council. The ceremony started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Ayesha Salim and 'Naat' by Sajar Ali. Afterwards, the College Anthem was presented.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Mrs. Rana Qazi expressed gratitude to the chief guest for his support in solving the affairs of the institution and welcomed him to the ceremony. Colonel Munnawar has been the recipient of numerous medals and awards, including Tamgha-e-Difa, Tamgha-e-Istaqlal, Tamgha-e-Baqa, Democracy Medal and UN Medal (Congo). He joined FGEI(C/G) in 2012 and to date he is serving as deputy director of FGEI(C/G).
She paid a rich tribute to the glorious history of the college in producing such women of substance such as Shaista Zaid, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi, Nelofar Bukhari, novelist Sara Suleri, historian Ayesha Jalal as well as ambassadors to Denmark, Ireland, Egypt and Mexico. She emphasised on the role of the student council in facilitating the two-way interaction between students and faculty. She congratulated the newly-elected student council members and advised them to prove themselves worthy of the honour conferred upon them.
The chief guest took oath from the newly-elected student council members and presidents of various societies and distributed badges among them. Delight and enthusiasm irradiated the faces of the newly-elected student council members who included:
Zoha Malik Sher (president), Sajar Ali (vice president), Nimra Naeem (general secretary-1st shift), Nadia Imtiaz (general secretary-2nd shift), Amna Shafqat (joint secretary-1st shift) and Haya Shaukat (joint secretary-2nd shift)
The new president, Zoha Malik Sher, expressed her heartfelt feelings of gratitude to the principal, teachers and students for bestowing this singular honour upon her. Later, the chief guest was presented the College Insignia by the principal.
The chief guest, Colonel Rana Munawar Hussain , in his address to the students, thanked the college authorities for inviting him to the occasion. He stressed on the importance of education, particularly female education that empowers a significant section of our nation. He called teachers the backbone of society as well as the architects of students’ character. He appreciated the science and art projects presented by the students and congratulated the student council members on their achievement.
Later, the ceremony culminated with the National Anthem.
