LAHORE
THE Punjab government at the cost of Rs5.159 billion would provide technical skills to 475,000 children of primary education under the project on Elimination of Child and Bonded Labour to eliminate poverty.
Punjab Planning and Development Chairman Muhammad Irfan Elahi said while presiding over a meeting of the project steering committee of the integrated project on Elimination of Child and Bonded Labour at P&D Complex, Lahore.
Addressing the meeting, P&D Chairman said that the major cost of this project was Rs5 billion, under the programme, 257,000 children from the ages of 5 years to 14 years would get technical skills of primary education. While children of 14 years to 18 years would also be provided technical education and training to uplift their career and get decent job opportunities. He said that under this project, one lakh adults would protect their lives from bonded labour. Moreover, the Punjab government has issued social security cards to 150,000 brick kiln workers.
The Punjab government is also ensuring to provide better facilities to child labour in their established schools so that they could get standard education and technical skills for achieving better job opportunities.
PEC exams: The partner schools of the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) will appear in primary and middle level exams of the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) planned in February, 2016.
According to a handout issued here on Wednesday, as per department circular issued by the PEF Director, Academic Development Unit, it is mandatory for students of all the partner schools to appear in PEC 2016 exams. The schools are; therefore, directed to get their schools as well as 5th & 8th class students registered with the PEC maximum by November 30, 2015.
Only those students of these classes will be considered verified who will appear in the PEC exams, the circular further said.
