Speakers at the annual conference of Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT) pledged to bring innovations in traditional teaching style and techniques for achieving excellence in English learning.
The conference arranged by SPELT held at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) and was attended by a large number of teachers from various educational institutions. Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui presided over the concluding session and said that the AIOU will continue to cooperate with SPELT in bringing about desired results for promotion of English language.
The speakers including senior academicians, Dr. Sarwat Rasool, Dr. Samia Nadeem, Dr.Wasima Shahzad, Zakia Sarwar and Abdul Majeed called for promoting innovations in the learning process while upholding relevant healthy and positive teaching traditions.
Deliberating upon the conference’s topic of ‘Traditions and innovation’, they underlined the important role of SPELT in developing a holistic approach in teaching methods while updating the teaching community with new trends in educational pursuits.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that the AIOU being the pioneer in English teaching is prepared to provide academic and infrastructure support to the society for promoting English language teaching. Teachers, he asserted should work as reflective practitioner through their personal conduct and innovative thoughts.
Living traditions and innovations in teachings techniques should go side by side while promoting knowledge, skill and good behaviour among the students, he added. He also underlined the need of introducing new ideas and practices in the teaching style while seeking inspirations from centuries-old traditions for ensuring best possible results in the educational field
