Demo against police for releasing abduction accused

GUJRANWALA: Dozens of people staged a demonstration against Qila Didar Singh police for releasing an accused in front of the CPO Office here on Thursday.
The protesters said that accused Yaqub had kidnapped Javed over a monetary dispute. They said that police registered an abduction case and arrested the accused. Later, police released the accused after receiving bribe from him, the protesters alleged. The protesters dispersed when the Sadr SP assured them of justice.

Driver tortured by motorway police

GUJRANWALA: Motorway police officials allegedly tortured a tractor-trolley driver here.
Police officials stopped tractor-trolley driver Sarfraz and issued him a challan ticket of Rs 750 for violating a rule. To it, the driver asked the officials to reduce fine as he had only Rs 710. It led to an exchange of hot words between the motorway police officials and the tractor driver. In the meantime, police officials allegedly tortured him. Meanwhile, dozens of villagers gathered there and started protest against the motorway police. They also blocked a road near Ladhewala Warraich for about two hours.

Human trafficker held

GUJRANWALA: The FIA arrested a human trafficker here on Thursday.
The FIA team led by SI Khizar Hayat raided Wazirabad and arrested human smuggler Amanatullah Butt. The action was taken on an application of Samiullah in which he alleged that Amanatullah Butt had sent him to Turkey on bogus documents from where he was deported.
