The employees of Iesco observed a countrywide strike as a protest against government’s plan to privatise power units, which according to them, earn profits of billions of rupees annually.
As part of strike all over the country, the Iesco employees boycotted the official work in their offices on Wednesday and did not attend consumers who visited to get their complaints rectified.
Similarly, the employees on the call of All Pakistan Hydropower Electric Workers Union staged demonstrations in all parts of the country.
In Rawalpindi, APHPEWU regional chairman Javaid Baloch, regional vice chairman Raja Khalil Ashraf, Regional Secretary Zaahir Gul, Zonal chairman Malik Fateh Khan, Zonal vice chairman Tariq Niazi, led a protest rally from Iesco main office, at Mareer Chowk, to Kutchery Chowk, carrying placards and chanting anti-government slogans.
Prior to reaching Kutchery Chowk, the protesters staged a sit-in in front of the Punjab Governor House while blocking both sides of the roads resulting in heavy traffic jams from Kutchery Chowk to Mareer Hassan.
Addressing the demonstrators, worker leaders observed that they would not allow the government to privatize power units of Iesco, Lesco, Fesco, Meco etc as they are profitable organisations.
