A police constable affiliated with a political party and two others were arrested on Monday for their alleged involvement in robberies and the murder of a senior fire officer a few months ago.
SP Saddar Shabeer Ahmed said the Arambagh police conducted a raid in Saddar and arrested constable Bilal Zafar.
During interrogation, Zafar disclosed that he was an activist of a political party. He and his accomplices had killed four people including a station fire officer Fariduddin a few months back. They were also involved in 12 robberies. On the basis of information gathered from him, the police conducted a raid near the intermediate board office in North Nazimabad and arrested Zafar’s accomplices, Siddique Baba and Amir Mashi.
Two gangsters killed
Police in two encounters in Lyari and Northern Bypass killed two wanted gangsters booked in a number of cases.
Officials said information was received that members of Lyari’s criminal gangs were hiding in Baghdadi area. When the police arrived to raid their hideout, the gangsters opened fire which was retaliated.
One gangster was arrested in injured condition while his associated fled. He was identified as Wazir Baloch alias Rana, affiliated with the Uzair Baloch group. He was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi where he died.
Police officials said he was wanted in more than 15 cases of target killings, including the murder of two policemen in Kalri in January 2015. Police said he was also wanted by the police in cases of extortion and more than two dozen grenade attacks in the Old City area.
In a separate raid and subsequent shootout with criminals near Northern Bypass by the Mochko police, a wanted gangster was arrested. He later died at Civil Hospital.
