Two cops among five ‘kidnappers’ held

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) of Sindh Police on Wednesday arrested five suspects, including two police officials, for being involved in kidnappings for ransom.
The AVCC officials made the arrest when they made a breakthrough in the case of the kidnapping of a Mohammad Yousuf, a businessman and a resident of Allah Wala Town in Korangi, said DSP Raja Amjad.
He said Yousuf had been present outside his house when he was kidnapped by unidentified suspects. His family later received a ransom call for an amount of Rs500,000 and the case was brought to AVCC for investigation.
DSP Amjad said the investigators began negotiating with the suspects and arranged for a meeting for payment of ransom. It was decided that the suspects would meet them at a petrol pump situated in Rasheedabad area in Manghopir.
According to the plan agreed upon by both parties, said DSP Amjad, the kidnappers arrived at the designated petrol pump when he overpowered two of them and shifted them to the AVCC’s investigation unit. During investigation the detained suspects disclosed the location of another accomplice and two police officials who had assisted them in the kidnapping.
Hence, a raid was conducted on Wednesday at a hideout from where Abidabad Police Chowki Incharge ASI Aslam, Constable Naeem and their three associates, Qamar, Wazeer and Tahir, were arrested while Muhammad Yousuf was recovered safely.
The arrested suspects were also involved in other cases of kidnappings for ransom which the AVCC had been investigating for the past several months, added DSP Amjad.
All five of the suspects were also remanded in the AVCC's custody for 14 days by an anti-terrorism court. The court was told that ASI Muhammad Aslam, constables Nadeem and Qamar Hussain, a police informer Muhammad Tahir and Basheerzada were alleged to have kidnapped a man named Muhammad Yousuf, and demanded Rs500,000 as ransom for his safe release, informed the IO.
The kidnappers were claimed to have been collecting Rs30,000 of the demanded ransom money when they were arrested.
The IO informed the court about the accusations against the five men and requested a physical remand of the five under detention accused so the nature of their crimes could be interrogated.

Rangers’ raids
Officials of the Sindh Rangers claimed to have arrested three suspects in raids conducted in Landhi, Kharadar and Lyari areas.
The Rangers’ spokesman said the suspects included a terrorist, an extortionist affiliated with a banned outfit, and a member of the Lyari gang war. Weapons were also recovered from them.

Hate mongers caught
The city police also arrested three suspects they claimed were involved in printing and spreading hate material.
Officials revealed that a raid was conducted inside the New Majaz Printing Press situated in Choona Bhatti area of Bohra Pir, within the remit of Eidgah police station. During the raid the police personnel found anti-Pakistan literature and arrested Raheel Ahmed, Adeel Ahmed and Majaz Shakeel. An FIR was lodged under the relevant printing sections read with the Section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act 1997.

175kg hashish seized
The Sindh Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) recovered 175 kilogrammes of high quality Hashish from a car travelling near the toll plaza on Superhighway.
The ANF spokesman said a team intercepted a Toyota Corolla near the toll plaza on Superhighway and found it to contain 175 kilogrammes of high quality hashish in secret cavities. One suspect was also arrested.
