BANNU: Pukhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai said on Sunday the respect for rights of the nationalities would save and strengthen the country.
Speaking at a party meeting in the Fazle Qadir Shaheed Auditorium, the PkMAP chief said even our rivals believe that the Pakhtuns were not as violent as they are now. But the question is who brought them to this pass? he posed a question.
Achakzai asked the rulers and the political parties to respect rights of the people. “This will end hunger and poverty,” he added.
The PkMAP chief said the Pakhtuns rebelled against the British and took part in the Independence War. He said it was an established fact that Mahatama Gandhi and Muhammad Ali Jinnah led the people of Indo-Pak Subcontinent to freedom but the Pakhtuns had launched the struggle for Independence long before.
Achakzai said the Pakhtuns leadership made mistakes when the Sub-continent was being partitioned and that affected their struggle which they had waged for freedom.
The PkMAP chief added the Pakhtuns held Pakistan very dear but their democratic rights should be respected as well. He said the all important decisions of the state should be made by the elected parliament. Achakzai asked why the Pakhtuns leaders including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Asfandyar Wali Khan and Aftab Sherpao were being targetted. What was their fault? he asked.
The PkMAP chief said peace in Afghanistan and India will have positive impacts on Pakistan. He asked the US, China and Iran to come forward and play a role in the regional peace.
