All police stations in KP to be modernised

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has announced to modernise all 282 police stations and police posts in the province on the lines of the model police stations established in the provincial capital and some other cities.
An official handout said the chief minister made the announcement while chairing a meeting in which the proposed amendments to the Police Act were reviewed.He asked the relevant authorities to prepare the PC-1 for renovating the police stations in the province and equipping them with latest facilities and well-mannered cops.
Pervez Khattak formed a four-member committee to examine legal implications of the amendments suggested by the cabinet sub-committee and the Police Department to the Police Act. He stressed the need for devising an independent system to deal with the affairs of the civil servants, including postings and transfers. He constituted a committee headed by Local Government Minister Inayatullah Khan to suggest reforms and amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Civil Servants Act.
Provincial ministers Shahram Khan Tarakai, Muhammad Atif Khan, Shah Farman and Qaumi Watan Party’s MPA Aneesa Zeb Tahirkheli will be members of the committee.
Pervez Khattak said the powers of the chief executive of the province and the cabinet members about posting and transfer of the civil servants were required to be devolved to the chief secretary or administrative heads of the provincial government departments.
He directed the Police Department to establish its own traffic engineering department.Discussing the proposed amendments to the Police Act, the chief minister lauded the interaction and coordination suggested by the cabinet committee and the police between the district police and elected local government representatives.
He emphasised the need for setting up security or peace committees at the village and neighborhood councils comprising of nazims and councillors.Local Government Minister Inayatullah khan, Senior Minister for Health and Information Technology, Shahram Khan Tarakai, Minister for Education Atif Khan, Minister for Public Health Shah Farman, MPA Aneesa Zeb Tahirkheli, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani and secretaries of the Home and Tribal Affairs and Law departments attended the meeting.
The IGP briefed the participants on the proposed amendments to the Police Act and suggested measures for reconstitution of the Provincial and District Public Safety Commissions. He proposed the establishment of Bureau of Accountability within the Police Department to ensure internal and external accountability of the police officials. He also suggested measures for accountability of police through local governments.
