All PPP candidates lose security deposits

Once the most popular party of Pakistan, Pakistan People’s Party paid heavy price for their leadership policies by suffering utter humiliation as in October 11 by-polls, the security deposits of all its three candidates for NA-122, NA-144 and PP-147 have been forfeited along with other 27 candidates.
As per rules of Election Commission of Pakistan, a candidate has to secure one-eighth of the total votes polled in a constituency; otherwise, he or she loses the security deposit of Rs4,000 submitted for National Assembly seat and Rs2,000 submitted for contesting on Provincial Assembly seat.
Besides these three PPP candidates, including Barrister Amir Hassan NA-122, Chaudhry Sajjad-ul-Hassan NA-144 and PP-147 Iftikhar Shahid Advocate, 27 other candidates also lost their security deposits, including one contestant of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and two candidates of Pakistan Awami Tehreek. It is pertinent to mention here that constituency NA-144 falls in Okara which is the area of PPP’s Punjab president Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo.
Former minister Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna who had recently joined PTI after his 25 years old association with PPP also faced embarrassment as he lost his security bonds submitted to the ECP.
Pakistan Awami Tehreek had placed two candidates in by-polls Ishtiaq Chaudhry Advocate in PP-147 and Raza Bashir Sanguka in NA-144. Unfortunately, more than 100 days long sermons of their leader Tahir-ul-Qadri on a container in Islamabad sit-in brought them only 127 total votes from both constituencies and forfeited their deposits.
The candidates who had lost their security deposits from NA-122 include Barrister Amir Hassan votes 819 (PPP), Jamshed Iqbal 42 (independent), Hakeem Sheikh Moin-ud-Din Qureshi 77 (independent), Khurram Qureshi 268 (independent), Raja Safdar Zaman Hazarvi 10 (independent), Sarfraz Qureshi 29 (independent), Shagufta Malik 37 (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Issas), Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Farooqi 16 (independent), Muhammad Naveed Nawaz 35 (independent), Muhammad Younis Nasir 22 (independent), Malik Munsif Awan 11 (Pakistan Justice Party), Mian Laiq Rehman 38 (independent), Mian Muhammad Yameen Tipu 5 (independent), and Nawab Doctor Amber Shahzada 11 (Aap Janab Sarkar Party).
In NA-144, Chaudhry Sajjad-ul-Hassan 4,325 (PPP), Khaliq-ur-Rehman 601 (independent), Raza Bashir Snaguka 101 (PAT), Abdul Sattar 14,186 (independent), Fiaz Ahmed Ghauri 926 (independent), Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna 6,356 (PTI), and Mehr Shahdat Ali Sipra 51 (independent) forfeited their security deposits worth Rs4,000 each.
In PP-147, Ahmed Sumandar Khan 10 (Pakistan Justice Party), Ishtiaq Ahmed Chaudhry 26 (PAT), Iftikhar Shahid Advocate 726 (PPP), Hafiz Imdad Hussain 24 (independent), Hafiz Ikhlaq Ahmed 23 (independent), Hayat Khan 33 (independent), Abdul Rasheed 8 (Punjab National Party), Umair Haroon 73 (independent) and Mian Amir Abbas 150 (independent) lost their security bonds worth Rs2,000 each.
