Lawyers oppose amendments to Consumers Act

MANSEHRA: The lawyers have announced to move the Peshawar High Court (PHC) against the recent amendments in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Consumer Protection Act No 6 of 1997.
“The consumer councils constituted under the Act in 24 districts of the province have been winded up without any justification,” stated Shahjehan Khan Swati, a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, while speaking to journalists on Friday.
Swati, who was accompanied by Supreme Court lawyer Yousuf Mughal, said that the Consumer Protection Councils, comprising of different segments of society like lawyer, journalists, Ulema and heads of line departments, were working voluntarily without any remuneration and providing relief to consumers.
