Concern over illegal use of LPG in vehicles

Islamabad: Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders on Friday expressed grave concern over illegal use of LPG in commercial vehicles which can result in cylinder blast claiming precious lives.
The scarcity of CNG has compelled many transporters to use LPG in substandard cylinders which is highly illegal and amounts to playing with life and property of masses, said Patron Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders Shahid Rasheed Butt.
He said that some elements have started converting CNG cylinders to LPG which will benefit ‘LPG mafia’ which is already reaping profits due to onset of winter.
Shahid Rasheed Butt said that Ogra has declared use of LPG in vehicles as illegal through a notification in December 2013 but now it has started issuing auto fuel licences which is hypocrisy.
CNG cylinders are manufactured in developed nations under strict quality control while LPG cylinders are being made without any control which is a threat to masses, he said.
