Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain inaugurated a state-of-the-art display centre established by the Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO) at the Defence Complex in which defence-related products manufactured by public and private sectors of Pakistan are being showcased under one roof.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that in the beginning Pakistan’s armed forces were mostly dependent on defence equipment of foreign origin but now due to the spirit of self-reliance and as a result of hard work of Pakistani scientists and engineers, the country had achieved the capability to completely overhaul, repair and modernise the military hardware in the country.
"This is a reflection of the indigenous capability of our defence industries," he said. He further said that Pakistan, both in public and private sectors, have developed a tremendous capacity to manufacture both small and heavy weaponry.
Later, Rana Tanveer along with Major General Agha Masood Akram, DG of DEPO, and dignitaries unveiled the inauguration plaque and visited the display centre.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by ambassadors, high commissioners, defence attachés and advisers in Pakistan along with senior armed forces officers, governmentt and civil delegates, chambers of commerce, media and representatives from participating companies.
The purpose of the display centre is to optimise the potential of public and private sectors in the defence export and to proudly showcase Pakistani indigenous defence capability and military prowess to all the foreign military delegations visiting Pakistan.
The notable products and information displayed are from HIT, POF, PAC, KS&EW, GIDS, NRTC, training packages offered by three services, PMTF, PSM, IOP, MVRDE, ARDE, Strategic Export Control Div, PANAFORCE, National System, Metasco Intl, Fast Cable, Afridi Arms, CARE, SARG, Daud Son, East West Infiniti and Badar Expo Solutions, the Event Manager of IDEAS 2016.
