Hitman who killed two MQM MPAs' arrested

The Sindh Rangers arrested two suspected target killers during a raid in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area on Saturday.
In a statement, the paramilitary force said the suspects, Akbar Hussain alias Kala and Konain Haider Rizvi, both workers of a political party, were involved in a number of target killings, arson incidents and cracker attacks.
Hussain was involved in the murders of MQM MPAs Raza Haider and Sajid Qureshi, besides killing 12 other people, it said.
According to the statement, the suspect also allegedly carried out four cracker attacks on election camps of his own party in Azizabad, Nazimabad, Mukka Chowk and Yousaf Plaza areas during the 2013 general elections.
It said the attacks had been carried out on the directions of the MQM leadership for garnering public sympathy.
About Konain Haider Rizvi, the statement said he had killed seven people and was also involved in taking extortion money and carrying out arson attacks during strikes in the city.
Raza Haider was shot dead along with his police guard on August 2, 2010, at Jama Masjid in Nazimabad where he had gone to attend the funeral of his friend’s mother.
MPA Sajid Qureshi and his son Waqas Qureshi were targeted in a drive-by shooting on June 21, 2013, when they had come out of a mosque in North Naizamabad after Friday prayers.
Following their arrest, the two suspects were brought to an anti-terrorism court where a Rangers counsel submitted the details of the raid.
The court handed over the accused to the Rangers for a 90-day preventive detention under Section 11-EEEE of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

More ‘hitmen’ remanded
Imran alias Umoo and Kamran alias Munna were also produced before the court on Saturday.
The court was informed that they had been arrested from the New Karachi police jurisdiction and were involved in the target killings of 30 people.
The court heard that the political activists were also involved in bomb blasts that had taken place in the Ancholi Society and other areas.
The accused were handed over to the Rangers for a 90-day physical remand.

Former KDA assistant director Atif Ahmed was handed over to the police for a seven-day physical remand after his detention of 90 days expired.
